I pedestalled the GX550 for a number of years. The reasons were varied; firstly because i hadn't had a chance to drive one as a contributor to other media outlets, and more importatnly because as a Lexus fan we needed an upgrade from our family car, a 2011 Lexus RX350. The Landrover Defender has roots that go back to the late 40's, in the form of the Series 1. Nowadays they're very different. Plush and luxurious, its easy to forget about their inherent offroad prowess. A week on and off-road helped me uncover a very well balanced vehicle, with amazing capability across a broad spectrum of activity.
